After early game drive for most and some work for the rest with the balloons, we have passed several marvellous landscapes.

We have left the savannah of the Serengeti to go up by the road to surround the Ngorongoro crater. These unique sceneries keep us all the time busy watching with intensity.

The way to Embakai Crater is very impressive. With vaste landscapes you cross a huge depression that reminds how wonderful is nature.

We have placed the camp for tonight up in the edge of Embakai Crater and writing now, the first day with daylight, this post for the blog in front of the cone of the crater viewing the lake on the bottom.

In our back we can see the Ol Doinyo Lengai to remember us the angle of the slope. A difficult area to fly, but we all think it is worth. Tomorrow we will check TO places, because up here maybe it is too windy.

Després del començament de l’aventura per la majoria i una mica de treball amb els globus per la resta, hem passat diversos paisatges meravellosos.

Hem deixat la sabana del Serengeti per anar pel camí que envolta el cràter del Ngorongoro. Aquests paisatges únics ens mantenen ocupats tota l’estona observant-los amb intensitat.

El camí cap a Embakai Crater és molt impressionant. Amb bastos paisatges creues una depressió enorme que et recorda com de meravellosa és la natura.

Hem establert el campament per aquesta nit a la vora del cràter de Embakai i escrivim ara, el primer dia amb llum del dia, aquesta entrada al blog davant del con del cràter veient el llac a la part inferior.

A l’esquena es pot veure el Ol Doinyo Lengai que ens recorda l’angle del pendent. Una àrea difícil de volar, però tots pensem que val la pena. Demà anirem a veure els llocs, perquè aquí pot ser que faci massa vent.

Después del comienzo de la aventura para la mayoría y un poco de faena con los globos para el resto, hemos pasado varios paisajes maravillosos.

Hemos dejado la sabana del Serengeti para ir por el camino que rodea el cráter del Ngorongoro. Estos paisajes únicos nos mantienen ocupados toto el tiempo observándolos con intensidad.

El camino hacia Embakai Crater es impresionante. Con bastos paisajes cruzas una depresión que recuerda lo maravillosa que es la naturaleza.

Hemos colocado el campamento para esta noche en el borde del cráter Embakai dónde escribimos, el primer día con luz del día, ésta entrada del blog delante del cono del cráter, viendo el lago en la parte inferior.

En la espalda se puede ver el Ol Doinyo Lengai que nos recuerda el ángulo de la pendiente. Un área difícil de volar, pero todos pensamos que vale la pena. Mañano vamos a ver los lugares, porque aquí puede que haga demasiado viento.

Today we have just moved from Lobo to Seronera. Wildlife game drive and many animals seen: Lions, elephants, giraffes, cheetahs, leopard, hippos, etc. and the wonderful landscape with wildebeest and zebras.

In the afternoon we have visited Serengeti Balloon Safari to carry some spares and check balloons. Tomorrow morning we will go to the launch site to check again details of the balloons to improve.

NOTE: To follow the car track (and the climbing at Ol Doinyo Lengai) you have to click on the vehicle and click again so it will be moved to the actual position of the vehicle.

Avui hem anat de Lobo a Seronera. La vida salvatge continua el seu curs i hem vist molts animals: lleons, elefants, girafes, guepards, lleopards, hipopòtams, etc. i el meravellós paisatge de nyus i zebres.

A la tarda hem visitat el Serengeti Balloon Safari per portar algunes peces de recanvi i verificar algun globus. Demà al matí ens dirigirem al lloc inicial per comprovar de nou els detalls a millorar dels globus.

NOTA: Per seguir el track dels cotxes (i l’escalada al Ol Doinyo Lengai) heu de fer clic al vehicle i fer clic de nou i es mourà a la posició actual del vehicle.

Hoy hemos ido de Lobo a Seronera. La vida salvaje continua su curso y hemos visto muchos animales: leones, jirafas, leopardos, guepardos, hipopótamos, etc. así como el maravilloso paisaje de ñus y zebras.

Por la tarde hemos visitado Serengeti Balloon Safari para llevar algunas piezas de recambio y verificar algun globo. Mañana por la mañana nos dirigiremos al lugar inicial para comprobar de nuevo los detalles a mejorar de los globos.

NOTA: Para seguit el track de los coches (y la escalada al Ol Doinyo Lengai) tienes que hacer clic sobre el vehículo  y hacer clic de nuevo por lo que se moverá hasta la posición actual del vehículo.

 

 

Finally on the 19^th night, just two persons were excited to climb the mountain.  Most people was tired and decided to wait to climb next week. It was important to see the difficulties of the climbing and indeed has not been easy, Anyway 100 % success as both arrived on top. A very tired climbing because Masai go straight up and there is not 5 m in horizontal to rest a  bit.

6 hours to go from 12:00 a.m. to 06:00 a.m. up that can be seen as the “car track” in the blog and 3 hours to descent.

But it is worth: the magnific scenary of the volcano with some smoking  and a deep crater make the ascent unique. Also the landscape and sunrise is wonderful.

In the meantime has been chosen the camp place for the next week. Also an approximate TO place, depending still on the meteo conditions. This morning has been really windy, so we hope weather improves.

We have travelled afterwards to Northern Serengueti and sleep in Lobo Campsite to see some wildlife and tomorrow visit the Serengueti Balloon Safari in Seronera.

Finalment, la nit del 19 només dues persones es van animar a pujar la muntanya. La majoria de la gent estava cansada i va decidir esperar a pujar la setmana que ve. Va ser important veure les dificultats del camí i, de fet, no va ser fàcil. Tot i això, l’èxit va ser del 100% perquè els dos hi van arribar.

6 hores de camí, de les 00:ooh fins les 06:00h que es poden veure mirant el ‘track’ del cotxe al mapa del blog, a això cal sumar-hi 3 hores de baixada.

Però ha valgut la pena: el magnífic escenari del volcà amb una mica de fum i el profund cràter que fan l’ascenció única. També un paisatge amb la sortida del sol molt maco.

Mentre alguns pujaven la muntanya s’ha triat el lloc per ubicar el campament la setmana que ve. També una aproximació del lloc TO, depenent encara de les condicions meteorològiques. Aquest matí hem tingut molt de vent, encara que esperem que el temps millori.

Després hem viatjat cap al Serengueti del nord i hem dormit al Lobo Campsite per veure alguns animals salvatges i demà visitar el Serengueti Balloon Safari a Seronera.

Finalmente, la noche del 19 solo dos personas se animaron a subir la montaña. La mayor parte de la gente estaba cansada y decidió esperar a subir la semana que viene. Fue importante ver las dificultades del camino y, de hecho, no fue fácil. Aún así, el éxito fue del 100% porqué las dos personas llegaron.

6 horas de camino, de las 00:00h hasta las 06:00h que se pueden ver en el ‘track’ del coche en el mapa del blog, a esto cal sumarle 3 horas de bajada.

Pero ha valido la pena: el magnífico escenario del volcan con un poco de humo y el profundo cráter que hacen la ascensión única. También ha sido un bonito paisaje el de la salida del sol.

Mientras algunos subian la montaña, se ha decidido el lugar para ubicar el campamento la semana que viene. También una aproximación al TO, dependiendo aún de las condiciones meteorológicas. Esta mañana hemos tenido mucho viento, esperamos que el tiempo mejore.

Después hemos viajado hasta el Serengueti del norte y hemos dormido en Lobo Campsite para ver algunos animales salvajes y mañana visitar el Serengueti Balloon Safari en Seronera.

We are already in Africa after one year preparation.

Arriving at 1:20 a.m. is not the best time, but all has been on time.

This afternoon we have seen the impressive Ol Doinyo Lengai and we hope next week we can do some flight around.

To arrive Lake Natron we have used a “road” going west that starts in Longido. A very dusty road that has stopped several times our 4×4 vehicles.

Some of the group are getting ready to climbthe Ol Doinyo Lengai tonight. We hope that the trekking goes well.

Ja estem a Àfrica després d’un any de preparacions.

Hem arribat a la 01:20h i encara que no sigui la millor hora, tot ha anat a temps.

Aquesta tarda hem vist l’impressionant Ol Doinyo Lengai i esperem que la setmana vinent hi poguem volar per sobre.

Per arribar al Llac Natron hem passat una ‘carretera’ que va cap a l’oest i comença a Longida. Una carretera amb molta pols que ens ha fet parar vàries vegades els nostres 4×4.

Alguns del grup s’estan preparant per pujar l’Ol Doinyo Lengai aquesta nit. Esperem que el cami els vagi bé.

Ya estamos en África después de un año de preparaciones.

Hemos llegado a la 01:20h y aúnque no sea la mejor hora, todo a ido a tiempo.

Esta tarda hemos visto el impresionante Ol Doinyo Lengai y esperamos que la setmana que viene lo podamos sobrevolar.

Para llegar al lago Natron hemos pasado por una ‘carretera’ que va hacia el oeste y empieza en Longida. Una carreta con mucho polvo que nos ha hecho parar varias veces nuestros 4×4.

Algunos del grupo se estan preparando para subir el Ol Doinyo Lengai esta noche. Esperamos que el camino les vaya bien.

Today we are starting the trip. Now we are going to look at the camp and TO sites, except Kilimanjaro because we did already. During this week we hope can send some pictures already, although they still will not be from the balloon. We will try to write something every evening starting on the 26th.

Avui ja comencem el viatge. Ara aquesta setmana anem a veure els llocs d’acampada i d’inflar els globus, excepte el Kili que ja ho varem fer. Aquesta setmana mirarem d’enviar algunes fotos encara que no sera volant amb el globus. Intentarem escriure cada vespre a partir del dia 26.

Hoy empezamos el viaje. Esta semana vamos a ver las zonas de campamento y de despegue,excepto el Kili que ya lo hicimos. Esta seman intentaremos enviar algunas fotos que aunque no sea volando en globo puedan ser interesantes. La intencion es escribir algo cada noche a partir del dia 26.

Last Saturday we flew with all electronic equipment to test if track and pictures were loaded in the blog at real time. Also were flying with GPS Angel from Kontiki with the Petromiralles balloon and Xavier with the Camins de Vent represented by the Vitogaz balloon.

The tracks were correct. The new flight tag appeared some time later, but all track was recorded and could be seen “on life”  afterwards. Also can be seen the 2 tracks of the other balloons with the right 2D position every 10 minutes and the altitude, except in the landing, of the Aconcagua balloon.

We did some pictures, but those were not included directly in the blog. Afterwards we have seen the problem as we have to stop the wireless connection before starting the Immarsat connection, so the tablet does not get in trouble.  During the afternoon I upload the pictures with the time that were shot and they appeared directly on its right position of the track.

This tag of Flight 1 will disappear and tracks will be included in test flights, so the next tag of 1^st Flight will be already in the lake Natron Area.

Starting on 19^th August will be possible to follow the track of the vehicle because our  team is going to check the camp sites and TO areas for the flights during the main trip.

ULTIMO VUELO DE PRUEBA EL 6 DE AGOSTO

El pasado sábado volamos con todo el equipo electrónico para comprobar si la ruta y las fotos se cargaban bien en el blog en tiempo real. Tambien volaron con GPS Angel  de Kontiki con el globo Petromiralles y Xavier de Camins de Vent representado con  el globo Vitogaz.

Los tracks fueron correctos . La nueva etiqueta de Vuelo 1 aparecio algo mas tarde, pero todo el track estaba grabado y se pudo seguir en tiempo real. Tambien se podían ver los dos tracks de los otros globos con su posición correcta 2D cada 10 minutos y la altitud, excepto en el aterrizaje, del globo Aconcagua.

Hicimos algunas fotos, pero no se pudieron enviar correctamente en el blog. Despues descubrimos que había que parar la conecxion wireless antes de iniciar la conexion con el satélite de Immarsat para que el tablet no se hiciera un lio. Durante la tarde cargamos las fotos via satélite directamente en el punto que se tomaron gracias a que se puede poner la hora en que se hicieron y por tanto se sabe donde estaba el globo en este momento.

Esta etiqueta de Flight 1 desaparecerá y los tracks serán incluidos en los vuelos de prueba, así que la próxima etiqueta de 1st Flight será ya en el area del lago Natron.

Empezando en el 19 de Agosto será posible seguir el track del vehiculo porque un avanzadilla del grupo va a visitar la zona para escoger los sitios de acampada y de despegue de los globos para el viaje del grupo internacional.

Divendres dia 29 de Juliol ja s’han enviat tots els globus cap a Tanzania. Son 10 paquets mes els equips d’oxigen que van marxar ja abans separats per una questio de logistica. Esperem arribin a finals de la setmana vinent.

Last friday July 29th all balloons were sent to Tanzania. !0 parcels besides the Oxygen cylinders parcel that left before due to a logistic matter. We hope they arrive by end of next week.

On 30th July we have done a new flight test. Now the 3D is woking well as you can see. Also the appearance of the page has changed and there will be tags for every day flight on top and one that will join the test flights. Anyway still on test.

ESPAÑOL

El 30 de Julio hemos realizado otro vuelo de pruebas. Ahora ya funciona el 3D como se puede comprobar. Tambien la apariencia de la pagina ha cambiado y habrá etiquetas arriba por cada dia de vuelo y tambien una que recuperará todos los vuelos de prueba. Recordar que aun está en pruebas.

Durante el EBF se ha realizado una prueba para ver los tracks en 3D. Si clicáis encima del globo en el lateral aparece o desaparece el track de aquél globo. Se hizo con todos los globos  en el vuelo de prensa que es el jueves dia 7. Los demás tracks son más pruebas con uno solo. Todos estan aún con la altura fija, pero ya se puede ver en 3D. Habrá una pestaña para cada día.

También hemos hecho pruebas de enviar fotos via satélite. Falta aún que se haga de una forma automática la colocacion en su sitio del track y se hace de forma manual de momento, pero nos han  hecho ya un script que  manda directamente la foto hecha con un tablet Iconia a la web, sin tener que copiar, pegar, etc.

La empresa Racetracker es la que desarrolla el software para poderlo ver en 3D y Verasat Global junto con Immarsat nos proporciona la cobertura via satelite para mandar fotos,etc. Gracias a todos!

ENGLISH

During the EBF the tracks have been tested  to see them in 3D. If you click on the right side on the balloon, then the track of that balloon appears or disappears . We did the Flight of the Press with all balloons  on Thursday morning 7th July. All other tracks are from one single balloon. It still is with a fixed altitude, although it can be seen in 3D. There will be a different tag for every day flight.

Also we have done tests to send pictures via satelite. Still needed to be done that is placed directly in the track, but for the moment it has been done a script so from the tablet Iconia, we can make and it is sent directly the picture to the web without having to copy, paste, etc.

The Racetracker company is developing the software to see it in 3D and Verasat Global together with Immarsat cover the sending of pictures, etc. via satellite.  Thanks to all of them!

This coming August Ultramagic has organized a trip to Tanzania mainly to over fly Kilimanjaro. We will be going with 7 balloons with 2 pilots each, from different parts of the world and we will also be accompanied by a number of friends.

We have thought to share this trip with a blog called Ultramagic Experience and we hope it will be interesting for you to follow the journey.

There will be a live track throughout the trip to know the location where we are at that particular moment and also another track of the flights that you will be able to look at with Google earth in 3D.

It is the first time, as far as we know, that this has been done in an area of such difficult communications, as all needs to be done via satellite and through a complex system of GPS and there will be a number of different companies involved.

To start the blog we have placed a track already of a flight we did as test last Saturday 2^nd July. Next Thursday 8^th we intend to do the same with 7 balloons. Just one track will be in 3D and the others will copy the altitude as it is too expensive to make all 3d GPS via satellite.

Text will be mostly written in English, but you can also use Spanish, Catalan, German, French or any other language. I hope you agree with that.

We will try to keep the blog updated at least once a week before the trip and daily during the main part of the travel.
